Yes, though a large clump is more than a leaf wash was made for. Bamboo leaves are narrow, tough and naturally glossy, and they take the wash well. The problem is size: a mature clump has thousands of leaves and you will not wipe them, so on outdoor bamboo the wash is a light mist over the canes you can reach, done in the evening and left to dry.
Where it makes sense
- Bamboo grown in a pot or a trough on a patio or balcony, where the leaves collect dust and traffic film and the plant is looked at every day.
- Indoor bamboo and bamboo-like houseplants (lucky bamboo is a Dracaena, and takes a wash well).
- Screening bamboo along a path, where the lower leaves go grey.
How
Make the wash as on our leaf-shine spray page, mist lightly over the leaves you want to brighten, and leave to dry out of strong sun. A soft cloth over a handful of leaves at a time brings up the sheen faster on a small plant. Once a fortnight is plenty.
